Happy Independance Day!

The fourth of July means more than just celebrating our independence. Its about celebrating and enjoying family and neighbors. Out of all of the holidays in the summer, this one is where more neighbors come together and enjoy the company of each other. All over facebook and twitter I was reading about people having picnics with neighbors and roasting marshmallows and standing in the street lighting fireworks.

We spend our holiday weekend mostly working. We spent about 50% of the daylight time in the house working really hard at meeting deadlines and fixing bugs in existing projects. The other half was trying to get our dogs exercised and tired. (a tired dog is an easier to deal with dog) At night we went to fireworks. Our town’s fireworks were last weekend, so this weekend was really low key. We didn’t go to a different town each night. Instead we stayed in and worked and enjoyed a little down time on Friday and Saturday and then tonight we were asked by the owners of Pyro FX to head over to the New Haven fireworks to take some pictures that they can use for their website and other portfolios.

New Haven’s fireworks had a precarious year this year! They almost didn’t happen because the town did not have the budget to do them. They usually shoot them off of a barge at Long Warf and people stand all around the warf (including in the street on a bridge that connects New Haven to East Haven) which costs a load of money in police and traffic control. This year they had it at a state park called East Rock park.

East Rock park is funny because most people didn’t even know what it was and where it was, even people like me who have lived in this area for our whole lives. We all eventually found it and once Matt and I got up there we were so psyched that we found this little gem. We drove a windy road all the way to the top and found this awesome monument to take pictures in front of for the display and parked ourselves right there. The pictures, as always, are amazing (THANKS MATT) and the work we did over the weekend is not nearly as exciting but will be equally as amazing.

So there you have it.. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

Photographing our work

Here are some pictures of our work, it’s nothing new, but photographing and posting it just seems to give the work we have done new life. Yes, you can absolutely get a solid idea of the designs we create by looking at the illustrated file of the work, but there is nothing better than looking at the tactile pieces that are a product of our work. We love the stuff that we do and when the physical products make it to our office and then out into the world, it feels like you are letting our babies out into the world.

So again, here are some pictures of some of our favorite projects.

My Vintage Camera Collection

I wanted to work on my Art Direction and product photography propping skills. I also decided that it was time I truly worked on something cool to offer up on this blog. I have a lot of cool things in my house, and one of my favorite collections is my vintage camera collection. Its a combination of cameras that my husband has collected through out his years of photography and videography mixed with my habit of stopping at every tag sale I see.

I have not had a lot of time to actually research these cameras, but I did learn that the Polaroid that (the one with the brownish leather) is a very unique Polaroid. The film that this camera uses is really fun to play with. You can do some really unique photography with it (check out this flickr group) and I have 8 pictures left in the camera so I am waiting for a sunny day to play. Yes, I will post the results.

Playing Catchup

I admit that I am failing miserably with my New Years resolution to try and post blog posts more often, and it makes me sad because I live my life thinking “ohh, this would make a great blog post” but then I get out and I never take pictures, or I take them and they sit in my camera. Actually, if I had one of these I would definitely be blogging and posting a whole lot more. If you didn’t click on the link, I am going to tell you that this is something that I have been following for some time. It’s called Eye-fi and its one of those things that I bet every single one of you had wished that you had, but never thought that there was anything like this available.

Its a freaking wireless SD card for your digital camera, and yes – it automatically ports pictures from your camera to your computer without even having to bat an eye. You just have to walk into the same room as your computer (not even the same room, but within the wireless router’s reach) and it pushes the pictures off your camera and puts them on your computer in nice, neat little folders that are organized by date. Amazing? yes! A dream? NO! This little card does a lot more than that too.. It also can publish pictures to any of your social media sites like Flickr, YouTube, and Facebook which means that I could finally start adding pictures to that Flickr account that I have had for ages.

Seriously guys, this thing is awesome shit, and as soon as I have some extra money to spend, I am totally buying one. Unless (ahem) someone from the company reads this awesome post on my little blog and would like me and my professional photographer (ahem) husband to test drive the Pro X2!!! Either way, I am – I will get one of these little beauties and posting will be so much easier. Apparently the X2 Pro card is generating some buzz in the professional photographer world because you can set up an adhoc network. Yea, you can link this little bugger wirelessly to your laptop in the middle of the dessert with absolutely NOT internet connection or wireless router. Amazing? yes! did I say yes?

You see, I just feel that I need to have pictures with my blog posts, and because I always forget and leave my camera in the car when I feel like writing a post, I never get around to doing it.

On another note, this post was not intended to be a little promo for that card, I had an awesome dinner with a new friend tonight in downtown New Haven. We went to this awesome place called Geronimos and I totally would have had pictures for you guys to see but I had so much fun talking and hanging out I forgot about my camera in my pocket. Isn’t that a bitch? The most fun I’ve had in a while and I forgot to take pictures.

Also.. I did just upload a about 500 pictures off of my camera so there will be lots more posts to come.. Kind of a little catchup from this month. In the mean time I wanted to show you all the pictures that were take before I cut my hair short. They were supposed to be promo pictures for the website, but since I don’t look like that anymore, I think I might get some new ones taken though. Who knows. Things change so often with me it’s hard to tell.
