i heart the city

philly

I have not yet been to a city that I didn’t love. This past summer we were in Philly for a photoshoot at a very high class “club” called the Union League. In my mind, the type of people that went there came from extremely high class, high income, high everything societies, and i was very very correct. The place itself was absolutely gorgeous. When you walk in, you must be in your best attire, and you are not to be seen in sneakers, or in my case, pajama pants. We had to leave the house really early, so the plan was to wear my comfy clothes for the 3 hour ride and then put my pretty dress on inside the car (yea class, I know) and walk into the place looking picture perfect. Well, that didn’t happen. Apparently all parking garages in the area were valet, and they would not let me follow my car into a secluded spot, so in walked myself in my favorite prisoner-looking striped pajama pants.  I was very embarrassed, but the gentle man at the front door was nice and escorted me to the luxurious changing room complete with private girls only gym and a slew of toiletries.

The photoshoot was a great success and then it was time to head out and check out the more loose side of the city. We ended up on South Street which was the most fun place ever. This area of Philly was not very city-like. It does not have the large boutique stores or high fashion shops. Instead, on South Street you will find little punk rock/costume stores, a huge condom store, an place that is crawling with large ants, and one of the biggest thrift stores I have ever set foot in – RetroSpect. I had a great time walking up and down the main roads and then ducking into side alley ways for some pretty amazing photographs.

I was absolutely dying for some mint chocolate chip ice cream by the time we were done with the actual photo shoot so we went to Hagen Das, and sadly, their mint chocolate chip ice cream is white. I don’t like mint chocolate chip ice cream that is white. The colors in the allies were just phenominal and my wonderful photographer husband and his assistant Mike C were able to get some good pictures of me. It was a hot day, so my hair – well you can tell it was hot!

Then we found a really cool amish street vendor selling some of the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen. The gentleman was nice enough to let us take some pictures of him and his flowers and sat and talked to us for a while. The Amish is just one of the reasons that I love Pennsylvania, they are such an interesting group of people.

My husband and I make quite the motley crew, even when attempting to dress up. I guess there is no hiding the punk rock soul. Ha, oh and the tattoos. You just can’t hide it when it is that darn hot out!

Great stuff- I love the colors and patterns of the tiles and the wall paintings with your dress. I have friends who live in Philly, and there are lots of neat places to take pix.
